From the sugar cane derives:

REFINED

  • White sugar
  • Light Brown sugar
  • Dark brown sugar
  • Powdered sugar

RAW OR UNPROCESSED SUGAR

  • Muscovado
  • Demerara
  • Turbinado
  • Sucanat

The whiter the sugar the more refined it is. The least refined out of this list is the muscovado, and therefore the healthiest option.

You can find then in its ORGANIC or regular version in your Health Food Store.

Other sweetening alternatives are:

  • Coconut sugar
  • Palm sugar
  • Java sugar
  • Jaggery
  • Honey
  • Agave nectar
  • Maple syrup
  • Stevia
  • Beet sugar
  • Lucuma powder
  • Yacon syrup

Basically you can extract sugar out of anything that is sweet like fruits and dates. It’s up to you which one of these to pick. I tried to give you a very wide range of alternatives for a better health.
